About Us
Hello Everyone
Welcome to our website, I hope you will find it informative and that it will meet your needs, be it to view our race days, book tickets, or get an insight into our corporate facilities.
Meeting after meeting thousands of people pour through our gates at Sligo Races to enjoy the incomparable experience of horseracing, together with the fun and fanfare associated with a day at the races. Sligo Races is a hugely popular racing event and attracts racegoers from near and far. A series of theme days appeals to sporting fraternities such as the GAA, Sligo Rovers, Sligo Rugby and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association. Other notable days include the sophisticated and glamourous Belfry Day, a fantastic fun Family Day and thee much anticipated Best Dressed Ladies Day. Of course, Students Day at Sligo Races is not to be missed. The vibrancy of youth ‘rocks’ the day with unsurpassed excitement – even the horses feel the fire.
So who are we at Sligo Races?
A team of very dedicated people, passionate about racing and tireless in our efforts to improve our racecourse and facilities to make it an even better experience for our racegoers, owners and trainers alike. The committee at Sligo Races consists of 15 voluntary directors who bring a treasure trove of experience and who are always at the ‘ready’ to help wherever they can. We have a committed track team who devote endless hours to getting the course ready for racing and a groundsman who works hard at keeping the enclosure in tip top shape. On race day dozens of other valuable people join our team to operate turnstiles, sell race cards, provide security, run our bars and restaurant and other important auxiliary roles.
What Next at Sligo Races
We are currently embarking on two major projects. First is Track Drainage, contractors are in place and track will be ready for racing this year. As part of our Capital Development programme we have completed our Equipment Shed and upgrade of the floor in our Bar/Restaurant. The next phase will commence after racing in October 2017 to include the demolition and rebuild of a toilet block and turnstiles and a total revamp and extension to the top floor of our Grandstand building. This will be complete in time for racing in 2018.
I will keep you updated on progress and look forward to seeing you all at the races.
Warm regards
Kathryn Foley, Manager
